Cable giant HBO and Boxing Promotional Company Golden Boy Promotions publicly broke up yesterday in what can only be called a Mexican Novela. No one really knows why they made this public, this could’ve been dealt behind the scenes and spared us of the embarrassment this all is. What this tells us the level of hate that both companies have for each other. Oscar de la Hoya claims that his company is the one that will save boxing. Ever since he entered the promotional world he said that his company was fighter focused. Well, we now know that all of this was B.S. Oscar is just like everybody else, including his arch nemesis, Bob Arum of Top Rank Inc. Twitter has become Oscar’s best and worst ally. It seemed as a spoiled kid was tweeting out of his account all of yesterday as he retweeted encouragement by followers and cheerleaders around the boxing world, as if to justify what his company had just done. In my humble opinion, his cold war with Bob and HBO is destroying what little is left of my favorite sport. The only one left smiling is Dana White, president of the increasingly popular MMA giant, UFC who benefits of every stupid move the boxing world does to itself.
Josesito Lopez just ruined Golden Boy’s plans for September 15th. In a war, Lopez made Victor Ortiz quit on his stool after suffering a broken jaw in the 9th in a schedueled 12 rounder in Los Angeles last night. Victor Ortiz was just supposed to be having a tuneup fight before his fight with Saul Canelo Alvarez on mexican independence day but ended up losing not only both fights but maybe his reputation as a real mexican warrior. Josesito Lopez has been screaming for the last week that the upset was being cooked even making some shirts that read “it smells like an upset”.

I have to admit, i wasn’t to sold on Oscar de la Hoya’s recent declarations about Bob Arum and Manny Pacquiao during his recent rehabilitation. But now, after he came clean on the photos that were published of him in lingerie, i’m a believer. I myself have been a big supporter of change during the last couple of months. I’ve been going through difficult times, but nothing compared to what this guy is dealing with.
Being a public figure as Oscar is, he has more responsibility about his acts than many of us. De la Hoya always had this clean cut image that was admired throughout the world. With the recent situations concerning his lifestyle, his image could’ve been tarnished for good. But he has taken the right steps. Clearing his demons, coming out clean and doing things one step at a time is the right way to do this, and i really admire this.
Admitting cocaine usage and alcohol abuse takes some real balls. Remember that the biggest problem he is dealing with is not his public image, but his marriage to Millie and the image he is giving to his children. Family is first and that is the biggest thing he must be dealing with. He seems to love his wife, and he seems to appreciate the value of family integrity. I follow him on Twitter, and sometimes feel disgusted with some of his tweets. They seemed forced, desperate and sometimes depressive. But now, after learning a little bit more about his private life, i can understand his feelings. Addictions are tough and can ruin anybodies life, i hope everything is well for Oscar and he manages to come out of this in one piece.
