NBA 2k13 Review
I lost interest in Basketball a long time ago. When players decided that 3 pointers and field goals were not cool and they switched to dunking, when the gangster culture came in and the Jordan’s and Byrd’s of the world retired. That was the time I decided I had to stop watching this atrocity of a game. Compared to the good old 80′s we only get a glimpse of what real professional basketball is. The same has happened to the video games that portray this new NBA. NBA 2k13 is a faithful representation of what happens on the field this days. It complicates the way you throw your field goals and free throws concentrating its gameplay on the inside game. Technicalities like using the right stick to do special moves are way to complicated and alienate the casual player. I used to be a hardcore sports game fan but recently I’ve lost some of that interest as games have gotten unnecessarily complicated. It just makes the game way more mechanical and predictable. Animations are premeditated and go with the mechanics put in to the right stick.
To me playing this game was a love/hate situation, mostly because it portrays the game as closely as you get to real life, which to me is pretty much as ugly as it gets. The game moves great, has good graphics and acceptable sound. Gameplay is spot on and works, if you’re a fan. I just happen to think that it gets pretty boring after a while. All the NBA imagery is very untasteful to me and it translates badly to the home consoles. Video Game Websites around the web give to much credit to this game, they give it perfect scores here and there, but in reality its not as good as they sell it to you. I have to give this game an average grade. Its a good representation of the sport but fails to impress me as a game.
SCORE 5.0 out of 10.0
