NFL Kickoff a borefest
Dallas beat up on the defending Super Bowl Champions in a boring game. The NFL is a very exciting sport but it can also be boring and when we have a sole game to look forward too it can lead to disappointment. This time around, to the surprise of everybody, Tony Romo held to an early lead and hung out to win a game against a rival on the road. But, if you think about it, it wasn’t as much a surprise as it should have been. The Giants are coming out of a Super Bowl win and aren’t as hungry as they probably were a year ago at this time. Eli Manning, proving to be a more accomplished version of his brother, even if he is not as talented, usually starts slow building their team towards the playoffs as the season passes. They are not like say, the Green Bay Packers or the New Orleans Saints, two power attacking offenses who come out firing from the first second. So, maybe we shouldn’t be surprised about the outcome of this game. Lets see Tony Romo get his team to the playoffs and executing there. We know Eli can and probably will, even though his team isn’t the same than last year’s Super Bowl winning combo.
People are getting too hyped up about a single game. When a game hits the spotlight in prime time we tend to overreact to the result. I still think the Giants are a better team and should wind up winning the division. The Cowboys need to prove they are a stable team first, then we can talk about their possibilities. As for the rest of the NFL, we’ll see next Sunday, even though we happen to have an opinion, I still think its all up for grabs before the start of the actual season. Pre-Seasons only means so much, we better not start getting to conclusions with those games as our evidence. For now, lets enjoy this week, we’ll talk about it next Thursday with our own NFL Republika Rankings.
