Saul Canelo Alvarez to Face headbutting Victor Ortiz
Golden Boy Promotions announced today that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will be facing hard punching Vicious Victor Ortiz. Canelo was supposed to fight veteran Paul Williams but had to change challenger after The Punisher suffered a life altering Motorcycle Accident that left him without mobility in his legs for the rest of his life. It was announced that James Kirkland, a hard puncher and legitimate threat to Canelo’s undefeated record, was going to be the challenger, but James declined the offer claiming he had an injured shoulder and wouldn’t be ready for the scheduled date. Victor Ortiz is better known for his 4th round knockout loss against Floyd Mayweather last year after he intentionally headbutted the champ and was hit with a punch when he was apologizing for his foul. This will be Alvarez’ first real test as a pro as he faces a young tough fighter. The question is, how will Ortiz carry the weight? He has normally competed at the Welter and Jr Welter division. This will be his first fight at the higher weight class which certainly gives an advantage to the strong mexican contender.
